Virgin Media has reported that it has found from their broadband data that there is a significant drop in web traffic on summer Fridays, with an 8% fall between 3pm and 5pm compared to winter. They determined that this was because many remote workers are clocking off early. Despite nearly half of UK adults not having official permission to finish early (48%), 32% do so regularly regardless of whether they have permission to do so or not. Moreover, 61% feel they’ve earned this early finish after a busy week.
Furthermore, the data also shows that when they are working, some are doing so from some very unconventional locations like parks, pubs, or even their cars. However, not everyone benefits from this trend, with over a third (37%) ending up having to work late despite initial plans to log off early
