TUC Publishes Draft AI Bill

The TUC has published a draft AI bill for consideration called the Artificial Intelligence (Regulation and Employment Rights) Bill. The aim behind the bill is "to ensure that people are protected from the risks and harms of AI-powered decision making in the workplace [(particularly when used in relation in hiring and firing)], and that everyone benefits from the opportunities associated with AI at work. Employers and businesses also need the certainty offered by regulation." The bill includes the following provisions: (i) a legal requirement upon employers to consult their employees prior to implementing decision making AI systems (ii) a legal requirement for AI systems acquired from third-party providers to first be vetted, screened, and assessed, and then subject to continuous periodic evaluation and review (iii) a legal right for employees and work applicants to have an AI-generated decision humanly reviewed (iv) a ban on "emotion recognition technology" and (v) the introduction of a statutory right to disconnect
