The TUC has backed the idea of devolving employment law to Scotland. If devolved, it could pave the way for a higher national minimum wage in Scotland amongst other measures. However, the devolution of employment law to Scotland is opposed by the present UK Government and by the opposition Labour Party. The Labour Deputy Leader, Angela Rayner, recently stated that Scotland "won’t need it because I want employment law across the whole of the United Kingdom to be uplifted and better. That’s why we’ve got a new deal for working people."
