Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act 2023 To Be Repealed

The Government has announced that the Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act 2023 will be repealed via the Employment Rights Bill. The legislation had imposed a requirement to provide minimum service levels during a strike within a number of sectors, including border staff, the ambulance service, rail workers, and fire and rescue services. However, according to a Government press release, "Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds have...written to the Government departments with sectors most impacted by strikes Education, Health, Transport, the Home Office, Energy, as well as Welsh and Scottish governments, to give a clear message that this government does not support Minimum Service Levels and intends to repeal the legislation." According to the Observer, ahead of repeal departments have been "told effectively to ignore [the] law....An internal memo ....makes it clear that the measure should not be used".
