The Government has launched a consultation on the Save As You Earn (SAYE) and Share Incentive Plan (SIP) employee share schemes "to consider opportunities to improve and simplify the scheme[s]." Participation in these schemes has been extremely poor down the years and in the forward to the consultation, the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Victoria Atkins, stated: "I am keen to ensure the benefits of these schemes are felt widely by employees, and I welcome views on how the schemes might be improved or simplified, particularly to help those on lower incomes share in a company’s success."
