Lords Committee Reviews Employment Rights Bill Amendments

The Employment Rights Bill is currently undergoing scrutiny in the House of Lords. On the 29th April 2025, the Committee stage began with the Government tabling a number of amendments.

The proposed amendments include the following:-

  • Adding short notice pay to what can be recovered in an insolvency situation.
  • Allowing personal representatives to continue with a claim in the event of the death of a party to it
  • Adding an entitlement to guaranteed working hours to the list of what constitutes automatic unfair dismissal
  • Recoupment of welfare benefits where a worker is compensated for cancelled or changed shifts, so as to prevent double recovery
  • Broadening what qualifies as a shift being ‘moved’ to cover both splitting shifts into separate parts and rescheduling portions for another time
  • Annualised hours contracts: a formula for calculating guaranteed hours for those on such contracts
