Disability Pay Gap Grows

New research conducted by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has found that in the year to spring 2024, the disability pay gap has grown by 2.6% from 14.6% to 17.2%. This amounts to £2.35 per hour for an employee working a 35 hour week, which equates to £4,300.00 per annum.

The upward trend in the disability pay gap identified by the TUC survey is consistent with other recent research. As highlighted in a recent article, new data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) found that between 2014 and 2023, the disability pay gap increased by 1% from 11.7% to 12.7%.

The Government have confirmed within the â€˜next steps’ document that accompanied the Employment Rights Bill that it’s Equality (Race and Disability) Bill will include measures to introduce disability pay gap reporting for firms with 250 or more employees, as well as to extend the right to equal pay to the disabled.
