Bolt Drivers Win Employment Tribunal Claim To Be Classed As Workers

The ET has ruled in the case of Mr Z Bandi & Others v Bolt Operations OÜ & Others, that Bolt drivers are not self-employed contractors who ran their own businesses. Instead, the drivers are workers given the control the Respondents had over the work the Claimants did and the contractual relationship between the parties. The Claimants could now be in line for compensation in terms of unpaid holiday pay and back pay arising out of a failure to pay at least the national living wage / national minimum wage. A hearing to determine the issue of compensation is to take place next year.

The case was launched following the 2021 Supreme Court decision in which the Court ruled that Uber drivers are workers.
