The proposed right to disconnect forms part of a “closing loopholes” bill and is set to become law in Australia. The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, stated: "What we are simply saying is that someone who isn’t being paid 24 hours a day shouldn’t be penalised if they’re not online and available 24 hours a day."
Workers in Spain, France, and Portugal already have a legal right to disconnect. Should the UK Labour Party win the next General Election, then it is also considering enacting a legal right to disconnect in this country as well as we highlighted in an article last November.
