Addison Lee Drivers Recognised as Workers

In a significant victory for gig economy workers, a tribunal has ruled that all Addison Lee drivers are workers rather than self-employed contractors. The outcome affects approximately 700 drivers who will now be entitled to employment rights. The ruling follows in the wake of the Supreme Court's 2021 decision in which it held that Uber drivers were workers.

The ruling means that the Addison Lee drivers will now be entitled to compensation in relation to holiday pay and backpay re the national minimum wage.

Commenting upon the outcome of the case, a representative for Addison Lee stated: "We are disappointed by the decision of the Employment Tribunal. We are currently considering options, including the right to appeal."
