Final Lockdown Restrictions Lifted On The 19th July 2021
The UK Government confirmed on the 12th July 2021 that the final set of lockdown restrictions will be lifted on the 19th July 2021 in England, meaning that businesses like nightclubs can reopen. Dubbed by some as 'Freedom Day', it has been called 'Anxiety Day' by others. For more on this, click here. Diffrerent rules apply in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Despite the legal requirements on mask wearing and social distancing being removed in England, many workplaces, like Goldman Sachs, and shops like Tesco's, will continue to ask that staff and customers wear masks and social distance. For more on this, click here and here
Religious Clothing
The European Court of Justice has ruled that employers within EU countries can ban employees from wearing religious clothing in the workplace. See ruling here
Flexible Working
The MP, Tulip Siddiq, has introduced a private members bill via a ten minute rule bill, which if passed, would make flexible working a day 1 right. As it is unlikely that the bill will attrack Government support, it is unlikely that the bill will become law. The Government has however indicated that it will consult on whether to make flexible working a default. For more on this, click here
Disability Discrimination
The TUC have called upon the Government to make long Covid a recognised disability, as its survey of 3500 people finds that over half with the condition have experienced discrimination from their employer. For more on this, click here
