The Government recently announced that there would be an increase in statutory maternity pay, paternity pay, shared parental pay, and adoption pay from the 1st April 2018.
Increase In Statutory Maternity Pay, Paternity Pay, Shared Parental Pay, and Adoption Pay
The increased rates are as follows:-
- Statutory maternity pay - those who qualify are entitled to receive it for 39 weeks at a rate of 90% of their gross weekly pay per week, subject to a maximum of £145.18 per week (up from £140.98 per week) after the first 6 weeks.
- Statutory Paternity Pay - the smaller of £145.18 per week (up from £140.98 per week) or 90 per cent of their average weekly earnings per week
- Statutory Shared Parental Pay - the smaller of £145.18 per week (up from £140.98 per week) or 90 per cent of their average weekly earnings per week
- Statutory Adoption Pay - those who qualify are entitled to receive it for 39 weeks at a rate of 90% of their gross weekly pay per week, subject to a maximum of £145.18 per week (up from £140.98 per week) after the first 6 weeks.
Increase In Statutory Sick Pay
From the 6th April 2018, statutory sick pay will increase from £89.35 to £92.05
The rate increases for all of the aforementioned benefits have been increased in line with the increase in the consumer price index (CPI).

Other Rate Rises
The Government also announced that there would be an increase in maternity allowance. Those who qualify are entitled to receive it for for 39 weeks at the rate of the smaller of £145.18 (up from £140.98) or 90 per cent of their average gross weekly earnings per week. The increase will apply from the 1st April 2018
Increases in attendance allowance and the state pension were also announced at the same time
The Chancellor of the Exchequer also recently announced in the 2017 Budget that the National Living Wage will increase from £7.50 per hour to £7.83 per hour from April 2018
