New statistics released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that between 1998 and 2022, the average number of hours worked by UK employees per week fell from 33.1 to 31.8 hours, a fall of 1.3 hours per week. The fall since 2019 alone, however, was 0.3 hours per week. That equates to an average yearly decline in weekly hours worked of 0.1 hours, compared to an average over the entire 24 year period between 1998 - 2022 of 0.054 hours. Hence, the rate of decline is increasing. Moreover, the fall of 0.3 hours per week since 2019 is equivalent to a fall in the workforce of 310,000 according to the ONS
